Hilo Bayfront Highway is now open intermittently between Waianuenue Avenue and Pauahi Street as state highway crews remove debris caused by high surf, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.
The canoe hale section of Hilo Bayfront Park remains closed, as does Coconut Island (Moku Ola) and all county beach parks in Keaukaha from Reeds Bay Beach Park to Richardson Ocean Beach Park.
A high surf warning remains in effect for shorelines in Windward Kohala, Hamakua, North and South Hilo and Puna. The highest surf should coincide with high tide at 7:45 p.m. this evening.
